THINGS TO DO IN LAPLAND:
Northern lights hunting - I recommend looking for not only a northern lights hunting safari but something unique. My family and I found a tour that you had to ride a snowmobile over a frozen lake to go into a cabin near the lake to eat local Finnish food by a Teepee tent with a fire while watching a 360 degree view of the northern lights dance around you Dog sledding - Go dog sledding. You will freeze so hard but it is something you wouldn’t miss because the view and the experience is the best. Look for the one where in you would drive the sled rather than just ride the sled. It is much more worth your money. |
Deer sledding with Snowmobile safari - This excursion was a two in one deal. I highly recommend this because it will be very worth your money. The tour started off by driving a snowmobile each up to the mountains that will lead to a reindeer farm. When you reach the reindeer farm, you will get to ride a reindeer sled and go around the farm. Afterwards, you will be brought to a Teepee hut with fire and traditional Finnish food. But before snowmobiling back to where you started off, they will take you to where all the husky dogs are and you can play with them.
MY EXPERIENCE
My Finland experience in one word - WOW. I could never exaggerate more on how much I loved Finland. The first time I have been to Finland was during the summer and thought it was alright. But when I came during the winter, my perception of Finland just changed from 0-100. I flew out to the Lapland area of Finland with my family during the middle of winter. We rented an AirBnB and stayed for 8 days. It. Was. Amazing. The whole place was covered in very thick snow and since it was during the winter solstice, we’d only see the sun from 11 am until 3 pm. Our days basically consisted of cooking up food in our home then heading out to do some winter activities. Since the average weather was - 20 degrees celcius per day and the highest it went was - 41 degrees celcius, we had to layer up so much clothes that we’d be so tired when we were done dressing up, but it was worth it. You could easily go sledding in your backyard. Our home also had a sauna in it since Scandinavian people love their saunas. I also tried their local cuisine like Reindeer everything. I have tried reindeer burger and reindeer steak and it tasted like beef so it was great.
