My experience
I went to Kenya with my family when I was only five years old, but the memories stay with me still. We stayed in a large house in the countryside, the only place that could fit me and my 7 siblings all together, and our host, an African widow, became our good friend. In Kenya, on my father's request. we spent a lot of time in the poorest districts of the cities, visiting the slums and orphanages. I still remember the rowdy greetings of crowds of poor children in one orphanage we visited.
A van driver we befriended drove us through the whole countryside, on roads which were then riddled with potholes. The music we listened to on the road still brings me back to the times me and my family spent together in Kenya, on my first real journey abroad. basic facts and background

personal tips
Kenyan cities are not a place for tourism, at least when I went in 2005. Go with a guide so that you don’t get swindled or taken advantage of my corrupt police. Other than that, I recommend going to Kenya to get to know the amazing amount of joy than even the poorest people can have. If you would like more of a tourist experience, stay out of the cities and explore the wildlife in the Kenyan Safaris.
