my experience
Vietnam was my first experience of Asia. At first, the culture shock was overwhelming. I was used to the Western luxuries I took so much for granted, and the quiet, ordered streets of my town in New Hampshire, so the chaotic streets, the noise, and the primitive hotel we stayed in took me by surprise. But once I truly embraced the culture and spent time in the city, my opinion changed.
I went with my dad and my brother, in the summer of 2013. We stayed mostly in Ho Chi Minh city, and browsed the shops for merchandise for our family store, A World Apart. Later, we took a few trips to the beaches and the Mekong Delta. By the time we had to go back to the US, I didn't want to leave! basic facts and background
must-go places |
- Beach-side town - the beaches in Vietnam are varied: some boast huge waves but aren't the cleanest, others have beautiful blue water and soft sand.
- Vietnamese temple - see if you can catch a glimpse of the Buddhist monks!
- Mekong Delta - where houses are literally built on water. It's a very poor area, but an amazing natural World Wonder.
personal tips
!Both the tourist experience and traveling on a budget are possible in Vietnam, without much cost. In Ho Chi Minh City , we stayed in a tiny hotel for $12 per night, but in the last few days we stayed a night in a five star beachside resort for only $100
