my experience
I passed through the island of Ponta Delgada on a layover between the Boston and Madrid. It was one of my first times travelling alone, but in 10 hours, I got to leave the airport, exchange my money, get myself some lunch and a hot chocolate, and roam the city for a good while. Portugal's arcitechture is very similar to Spain's, and I loved walking along the cobblestone streets, and visiting old churches in the city center. Other than that, I can't say much about the culture itself.

- Lisbon - Although my only personal experience of Lisbon was from the inside of the airport, I've only heard the best things about it. The people, they say, are warm, the sights beautiful, and the city always alive, even late into the night.

personal tips
If you’re on a budget, get lunch at a supermarket. Also don’t miss out on the tiny local cafes that they have on every corner. I stopped in one to wait out the rain before I walked back to the airport, and I will always remember the cafe owner and the hot chocolate I drank in my experience of Portugal
