my experience
I passed through Doha, Qatar on my way to Nepal with my brother and my Dad. We had 7 hours to leave the airport, and decided to take a guided tour through the city center. Qatar has incredibly wealthy areas because of their oil industry, but they also have a very quaint Arabic-style market in the city center. I had never been to an Arabic country before, so seeing the conservative dress and markets was a very new experience for me.
Basic facts and background
Must-Go Places
I can't suggest many places, as I was only in Qatar for a few hours. I think if you're in Qatar, you'll easily get a good sense of some of their luxurious malls and plazas just by walking around -- but don't forget to stop by the Old City! It's a fascinating glimpse of the old Arabic culture.

Personal tips
Qatar is a Muslim country, and though their economy is very advanced, the people dress very conservatively. Every woman I saw was wearing a head-to-toe burka! I recommend at least women travelers to dress as modestly as possible -- I felt scandalous in a long skirt and baggy t-shirt!
